SAMBA ROSETTE

A goes to a little Ballroom and Latin dance class on Saturday mornings; there's no pressure and it is only half an hour, but she really enjoys it and they can do rosettes if they want to.  I wasn't sure how formal it would be or how she would cope with it so this time around she just did one which was the Samba.  She had a class yesterday and then the exam was today.  She was so excited and looked so cute all dressed up.  Obviously I was very proud of her, not just for dancing well though, but for being brave enough to do it in the first place and for sitting so sweetly afterwards and watching all of the other children do their exams.

STANDING

For such a long time you did very little physically; you weren't interested in rolling or sitting or anything else that required you to make much effort.  Now though things are very different; you are constantly rolling around the living room, you are trying desperately to crawl and although not walking or cruising yet you are on your feet at any opportunity you get.  I wonder how long it will be before you're walking and I am chasing after you; not too soon I hope.

Our little lady tends to be a real girly girl and yes this hat is pink and sparkly, but it's a cap.  She has never worn a cap in her life and of all the pretty girly things she could have picked up in the shop she went for this.  I am loving that she has put it on at a slight angle with the peak to the side, very street!!

MORE PIRATE ANTICS

You were asked to dress up for nursery today in order to raise money for Comic Relief.  The theme was pirates, princesses and cowboys and everybody at nursery this morning had made a huge effort.  Thankfully you already had a pirate costume and were extremely happy to have the opportunity to wear it again.

Here is my little chicken with the chickens that they have hatched at nursery using resources provided by Living Eggs.  All of the children (not to mention the parents and teachers) at nursery have absolutely loved this experience.

It gives me such joy to see how your relationship with your baby brother strengthens and develops moment by moment.  Those intertwined arms in this picture are not only turning the pages of the book together, but they are turning the pages of your lives together.

DRAWING TO A CLOSE

I know that evenings like this one are rapidly drawing to a close because I am going back to work in a little under three weeks.  So for four nights per week you will be going to bed for Daddy with a cup of my expressed milk (soon to be followed by a cup of cow's milk once you hit one because despite having a perfectly adequate milk supply my ability to express is absolutely dire!).  I feel so sad that I won't be able to feed you at bedtime and then put you to bed that I am really milking (excuse the pun) the time I have with you; sitting cuddling and snuggling and dozing with you until I really HAVE to put you to bed. 

ARE THEY IDENTICAL?

If I had £1 for every time somebody asked me if you and your sister were identical I would be a very rich lady.  (You are a boy and she is a girl so clearly not!!)  Most days I don't even think you look alike and I generally think that your little brother looks more like your sister than you.  Look at this photo though; it is one of only a handful of moments where, aside from the difference in your colouring, I can really see how alike you are.

TWO EXTREMES

Lately you two have a real love-hate relationship.  Some days you are so affectionate towards each other and other days all you do is bicker from the minute you get up to the minute you go to bed.  Looking at you snuggling into you brother (who has cheekily jumped into bed with you) here you would never believe that the love-hate relationship was at all possible.

EXPLORING THE LIBRARY

Who would have thought that two little bunches of flowers could be the source of so much pleasure? I obviously love them because you and your brother asked Daddy to buy them for me for Mothers Day and then took the time to choose them.   Then there is you; so completely fascinated by their beauty, smell and texture that you have done little else this afternoon, but stare at them.  These flowers have been the topic of many a conversation between you and your brother today so maybe you should ask Daddy to buy them for me more often.  ;-)

Given your love of all things green and the fact that your sister was dressing up as the witch from Room on a Broom for World Book Day the frog from Room on a Broom was the obvious choice for your costume.  You loved the fact that you were all dressed in green and that Daddy had made you a mask and I loved the fact that it cost us virtually nothing to do it!  Smiley faces all around.

ROOM ON A BROOM

I'd like to say that I thought long and hard about what you would be wearing for World Book Day, but I would be fibbing.  It was actually more a case of what can we do with what we already have without it involving a princess because there is only so much Disney Princess overkill I can tolerate and that will be coming next week for Comic Relief.  So as you had a witch's outfit complete with broom hanging around from one Halloween I made you a wand like the one in the book, plaited your hair complete with bow and voila you were the witch from Room on a Broom which is a nursery favourite thanks to this little film.

STANDING

At the moment standing up whilst holding our hands is amongst your favourite things to do. You have gone through so many developmental milestones over the last couple of weeks that it can be quite overwhelming at times. I would have liked more time to adjust to each individual little change before we moved onto the next, but I guess I don't always get what I want.

GURNING

Whilst playing with my new phone today I was trying out the camera function and I asked you to smile, but instead you gurned (you know like Chandler does on his engagement photos in Friends). For some reason my asking you to stop gurning sent you and your sister into fits of giggles and those giggles eventually ended in this lovely, cheeky photo.

My big boy wants my baby boy to be just like him.  He is always telling me about the things he will teach him as he gets older and this is a perfect example; I watch them through the window as they seem completely engrossed in the jigsaw that they are doing together and I smile to myself at the relationship developing between them.

THREE OF A KIND

I have always been able to see that your baby brother is very like you and everybody that meets your daddy tells me that you and Teeny are the image of him, but I find it odd that I have never been able to see it.  What do you think?  I wonder if when you read this you will think that you look like Daddy or Teeny or whether as you get older you will turn out to be like chalk and cheese.

You have had these two top teeth for a little while now, but today when I come to get you up from your nap I take a peek through the cot bars and notice how much they have come through since they first cut and how grown up they make you look.  I am so sad that my baby is floating away day by day, but am excited to get to know the toddler who will be here in his place.

I love how you get so excited about and engrossed in everyday things that I wouldn't even take a second glance at.  Maybe I need to look at the world from a child's perspective every now and again.

You always have to be doing whatever your brother wants to do and vice versa.  So of course, because you were on the swing, he had to come and squeeze himself on to swing with you, much to your amusement!

Look at you and Skyla tag teaming your brother here; you two can sometimes be so mischievous together.  D has no chance of getting off that seat in one piece while you two are shaking it so vigorously so, apart from the occasional wail to signal a near falling off, he just calmly sits it out until you get bored which he knows won't take long.

HOLDING ON FOR DEAR LIFE

You are holding onto your brother's hand as if your life depended on it;  I hope that you two are always so close that you feel able to reach out to each other like this and to hold on tightly to each other when you need.   As your brother gets older you might need to loosen that grip ever so slightly every now and again, but I am sure he will always come back to the warmth and security of that hand you hold out to him.

THE BOYS

As D gets older he is becoming more aware of the differences between him and his twin sister and of the boy/girl divide.  Quite often I will hear him say something along the lines of "the boys will do X and the girls will do Y" so in true D style here are the (truly wonderful) boys.

The Cbeebies Art Magazine that Nanny bought you today came with some stickers and, after sitting and completing some of the activities with Nanny, you came into the kitchen proudly sporting your "I'm a Cbeebies Artist" sticker and repeating said phrase over and over and OVER again!

TREAT

I am quite frugal and very rarely buy you magazines as a little voice in my head always tells me that for the price of two magazines we could have four or five books or a whole array of other things from The Works.  Today, however, Nanny arrived with magazines for you both to enjoy; what a treat!

COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY GUTTED

So those of you who follow my blog will know that my 365s tend to be posted a week or two in arrears.  So for example today is actually 15 March, but I am posting pictures taken on 1st and 2nd March.  Whilst editing photographs today I almost cried when I realised that, for some reason absolutely unbeknown to me, there is no photograph of Teeny for 1 March.  I felt so sick as I checked the laptop, my camera, my phone, my husbands phone, my mother in laws phone, the video camera, the compact camera that I gave to the kids to use and even their Innotab because it has a camera function on it, but there is absolutely nothing.  I wouldn't mind if I had just not been bothered, but I must have thought that I had taken one or I must have taken one that got deleted from the camera or phone by mistake.  I know I probably seem like I am making a mountain out of a molehill, but I have worked so hard to make sure I have a photograph everyday and I just have no idea how this happened!

 

Well rant over!  There is nothing I can do about it now so I am going to take the opportunity to post an old squidgy photograph of him instead as there just aren't enough of those.

CONGRATULATIONS ASSEMBLY

Today was so special for you.  You were presented with a certificate during the Congratulations Assembly (for nursery and infants) "for trying really hard when writing about the picture from the story Goldilocks and the Three Bears".  Your brother and I came to see you get your certificate, but Daddy couldn't get away from work (which he was very sad about), however that did mean that Nanny Dot got to come to the assembly too which was lovely and you seemed to be really pleased that she was there. 

 

My dear boy we never expect for you to get everything right or to always be the best or come first at everything; all we ask is that you always try your best and that you ask somebody if you don't understand.  We are so proud of you sunshine.
